South Bethany is noted for the houses that have been built on top of the beach, practically in the water.
Route 1 cuts between beach cottages on the ocean side and businesses and homes on the bayside.
The town is sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Assawoman Bay to the west.
