Beach-Net! Guide to the Delaware-Maryland Beaches

STOP 1
Fields, Bluebird Nest Box

The fields here are used for wildlife food and cover plots. Annual grains include soybean, buckwheat, millet, sorghum, and corn. Perennials include lespedezas, clover, and autumn olive. The perennials attact wildlife for viewing opportunities. The small plots are surrounded by protective cover for nesting, loafing or escape from predators.

The box on the pole to the right is a Bluebird Nest Box. Many other species, such as tree swallows, carolina chickadees, house wrens, white-footed mice and honeybees, also use the box.
