The birds, important mosquito and horsefly predators, have used boxes since pre-Colonial days and have little fear of people. Hedges beside the food plots offer food and escape cover. The combination of evergreen and deciduous species provides a balanced diet of berries and nuts, as well as protection from wind and rain.
