FISHING NEWS

Roger Gross was on the Reel Hard south of the Poorman's Canyon, and caught 25 yellowfin with one keeper.

Ron Dawson, of Robesonia, Pa., caught a citation striper at 21.1 lb., 39" long on a white Zoom at IRI.

Bobby from the Pier called and said they are catching a lot of spot. A few croakers are showing up including a couple keepers.

Jon Kitchen fished the Poorman's and reports that Carol and Madison Kitchen caught their first ever YFT, at 38" and 20 lbs.

After hearing rumors of puppy drum being caught at Massey's Landing, Bill Jr. fished with clams and came away with a nice sized triggerfish.

Captain Kenny G., on the Just Right IV, caught dolphin with crew Jerry Morris, Paul Freeburg, Danny, Kevin and Sleeper at the Fingers .

Louie Satori and crew aboard the Quest caught a129lb mako, released 2 other mako and 1 blue shark while fishing the 20 Fathom Line

Fishing at Three R's Rd. on Sunday, Jim Parrett and Bill Weiss caught blues all afternoon on whole mullett rigs. The best bite came on the outgoing just before dead low tide..

Obie-Wan's crew caught lots of yellowfin, mostly short, in the Poor Mans Canyon.

Wilmingtons Tom Parisi landed a 5.05lb., 24" flounder caught on a squid and minnow combo at B Buoy.

Tom Griffin, of Bills Sport Shop, caught a 19" flounder and some throw backs at Roosevelt Inlet on smelt.

Sean Kane, of Rehoboth, brought a 32.5", 17.67 lb striper to the scales after fishing at IRI on eels.

According to Shirley Donovan of Donovan's Dock, the charter boat, Reliable II, out of Bowers Beach, caught a few croakers and some flounder up to 25".

Sue Foster of Oyster Bay Tackle, reports from Ocean City that flounder fishing was good on most days. The Rt. 50 Bridge was hot on bluefish at night. Croakers appeared at the Oceanic Pier. A cobia was caught in the bay. The surf was still mostly sharks, skates and rays with a few bluefish mixed in. There was some keeper flounder in the surf at Assateague.

Ocean fishing is producing sea bass, flounder, triggerfish and spadefish.



The first day of the IRBA TaTa Tuna Tournament has come to a close. There were 11 boats that fished the first day. Weather reports from boats were of calm seas and sun. Fishing was very slow today. Only five tuna, all yellowfins were weighed. The heaviest was 41.5 lbs caught on the Chain Reaction II. They also weighed two other smaller yellowfin for a 3 fish combo weighing 91.5 lbs. Outlet caught a 21.3 lb yellowfin to win the Daily Calcutta for day 1. Two dolphin were brought to the scales with the heaviest at 12.3 lbs caught by Mike Gorman on The Black Pearl.

Tautog Reopens!!!!!!

Tautog fishery has reopened. The size limit is 14" with a creel limit of 10 fish.

39 More Subway Cars Sunk at Redbird Reef

The Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Artificial Reef Program oversaw the sinking of another 39 New York City subway cars at Delaware’s largest and most popular artificial reef, Redbird Reef during June.

Updated 2009 Regulations

The new flounder regulations of 4/day @ 18.5" is now in effect.

Size requirement for black sea bass has increased from the 12 " to 12.5".

Brian Walsh reported that while fishing 3R's Rd, one guy next to him caught a 32" striper. Later in the day, Brian saw a guy on the other side of him catch a 24" flounder.

Bill Jr reported that while fishing at Massey's Landing, the person next to him caught a 27 1/2" flounder.

Jason Young fished IRI from the south jetty and nailed a 35" striper that hit the scales at 17 lb. 13oz .

We received a really nice email from a new customer, J. P. Quinn from Lewistown, Pa. J. P. said " I wanted to let you know that I stopped in on Tuesday for some bait and tackle and one of your workers introduced me to Gulp Bait. I have used this for Walleye on the Susquehanna River in Pa. but this was a first for the ocean. It was incredible – the flounder hammered it! Tuesday, myself and The Walters family, all of us from Lewistown, PA., caught 13 flounder at the Port Lewes Pier in a 4 hr timeframe. Most were 16-17” but we did get two 19” keepers. We also fished Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and landed and released (1) 46” Brown Shark and (1) 45” Dogfish Shark on bunker fish.

Thanks for all you and your staff do – you have a talented group down there!"

We also received an email from Steve Prestipino of Apple Electric who was fishing with his family on the sound side of Hatteras. His son, Matthew, age 8, was jigging a 3" grey shrimp Gulp and nailed a 20" flounder on his new set up from Bill's. Matthew supplied enough fish to make 8 fish fry sandwiches for the Prestipino gang.

On Delivery's fishing report with Captain Mike Rivera and mate Mike Davidson reads that "this week has been great for fishing! Returned to the dock with a 350lb. thresher! A couple of days later, the crew landed 2 nice makos and 2 dusky sharks on an 8 hr trip. On Tuesday, they had a good flounder bite at A bouy bringing back 6 big flatties.

"This past weekend was a busy one for Blue Collar Man charters out of IR. They caught large sea bass and flounder to 23" at the Old Grounds. The keeper ratio keeps improving daily as the doormat flounder continue hitting the box.

The headboat Reliable II has been fishing the De. Bay and boating keeper flounder, ling, snapper blues and some nice size sand sharks.

Here are the final results of the OC Shark Tournament:

Mako Division

1st Place - "Nontypical" - 876 lbs.

2nd Place - "Pumpin' Hard" - 271 lbs.

3rd Place - "Canyon Crusher" - 243 lbs.

The winning mako set a new Maryland record that had stood since 1984 with a 766lb. fish caught by Frank Gaither.

Jim Hughes caught this year's winner in 500 fathoms between the Poor Mans and Washington Canyons.

Sue Foster from Oyster Bay Tackle in Ocean City reports that the flounder bite is still good. Striper action has been happening around the Route 50 Bridge and the south jetty. Surf fishing has been mostly sharks, rays, some snapper blues, and some flounder around the bulkheads and pier.

IRBA is running a tuna trolling tournament June 28th to July 4th and on the 4th a picnic and awards , fish 2 out of 7 days. The IRBA is teaming up with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition for our 2nd Annual Ta-Ta Tuna Tournament. The Tournament will be held over a 7 day period this year from Sunday, June 28 thru Saturday, July 4, 2009. Fish 2 out of 7 days. The entry fee is $250.00 with 9 side Calcutta’s available. It will culminate with an awards dinner/picnic at Indian River Marina on 4th of July evening. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Don't forget, lady anglers are encouraged to fish this tournament. The Captains meeting is at the Green Turtle in Lewes on Saturday, June 27th from 6:00-9:00 P.M. where you may sign up and enjoy refreshments. We will also be selling raffle tickets for a custom Black Bart rod with an pink anodized Penn International,, 30W reel. Other raffle prizes are a signed and numbered Guy Harvey framed print, a framed , Bill Cates signed Tuna watercolor, portable deluxe stainless steel gas grill, a Guy Harvey 4' x 6' rug, plus several other great items. Tickets are $20 apiece and all proceeds go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.
