2010 Bill's Sport Shop Annual Flea Market

April 10th is fast approaching. Because of limited parking, only one space will be available to each vendor-with no exceptions. Deli 88 will be open early for coffee and breakfast. Manufacturers' Reps will be available to demonstrate their new products: Shimano, Aqua Clear, Maws Tails, Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware, Eagle Claw, DMS, The Fisherman Magazine, Star Rods, Coastal Fisherman and St. Croix. St. Croix is offering a free hat ($20.00 value) with the purchase of a rod. Several local charter captains will be taking reservations for upcoming trips. We will also begin accepting registration for Bill's Sport Shop 2010 Flounder Tournament.

Fishing News

Inclement weather has continued to hamper freshwater fishing as well as anglers trying for early stripers and tog. Perch, crappie and bass anglers are having a hard time trying to fish flooded ponds and creeks.

Walt Bradford caught 2 rainbow trout at Newton Pond using Berkley Power Bait. Flooding and muddy water has made trout fishing more difficult than usual.

2010 Fishing License

Avoid the rush and purchase your fishing license as early as possible. We're addinga second terminal to facilitate processing. Licenses are also available on-line. Please note that the link to this site has changed. The new link is https://egov.dnrec.delaware.gov. A new Fin number must be obtained each year for all anglers 16 years and older. Freshwater Trout Season

Newton Pond, between Ellendale and Greenwood, and Tidbury Pond near Dover has been stocked with trout. Another stocking will take place March 18th. Bill's has a full line of Berkley Trout Baits available.

Casino Proposal

There is a proposal to build a casino at the north side of IRI. It would cover ground from the Coast Guard Station to the new bridge. The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park is closed till Fall.

Flounder Regulation Meeting

A public hearing on flounder regulations will be held

on March 23rd @ 7:00 in the DNREC auditorium in Dover.

Here are the four options to vote on:

Option 1 Size: 18.5" Creel:4 Closed Season Oct.13 - Dec.31

Option 2 Size: 18.5" Creel:3 Closed Season Oct.26 - Dec.31

Option 3 Size: 18.5" Creel:2 NO Closed Season

Option 4 Size: 19.0" Creel:4 NO Closed Season

Public Comments are open @ this meeting or by written comments to the Fisheries section of DNREC between March 4 - March 31. The public comments are then given to the Secretary of DNREC and if approved are published May 1 with an effective date of May 11th.

Our annual flea market will be held on Sat., April 10, 2010 starting at 6 a.m., on Bill's Sport Shop/Coastal Plaza parking lot. One space is free. There will be a charge for a second space. Deli 88 will be open early for coffee and breakfast. Fishing News

Fred Ruff caught a citation crappie, 1.65 lb. 14" at Milton Spillway on minnows.

Freshwater anglers have also been hitting local ponds and catching bluegills, bass, white perch and crappie. Yellow perch should be making an appearance.

Freshwater Trout Season

Newton Pond, between Ellendale and Greenwood, and Tidbury Pond near Dover has been stocked with trout. Anglers are catching rainbows approximately 11", weighing 1/2 lb. The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park is closed for the benefit of piping plovers, oystercatchrs, least terns and other threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds.
