FISHING NEWS!

“Lil Angler”
The fishing report from the head boats is that the flounder bite has improved.  They have been catching 3 to 10 per trip with the largest measuring 24”.  The anglers are still loading coolers with croaker  and have also been catching some bluefish.

“Extreme Charters”
Captain Jim Childs and Captain Bill Knorr reported lots of nice tog, some small sea bass and some big trigger fish at the Gypsum Prince and the walls around Lewes.  The croaker bite has been great in both Rehoboth and Delaware Bays.  They have also caught some flounder to 20”.  The night trips have been keeping anglers busy with great catches of Blues up to 26” but most in the 16” to 18” range.  Night trips have also produced some stripers to 36” with many shorts caught on live eels and shad baits.

“Pole Position”
Captain Mike Behney reports that his charters have been fishing the Poorman’s and had Yellowfin Tuna up to 70 pounds.  His anglers have also boated Dolphin to 10 lbs.  With the limit down to 1 Bluefin, he has been running to the canyons and trolling for Yellows. For his customers.  the “Pole Position” was repowered over the winter with 2-500hp Luggers and it now cruises at 26 to 27 knots which makes the canyon runs a lot quicker.

“Raven Lady”
Captain Chris Moody fished the Poorman’s and reported l Marlin.  His tuna bite has been slow and spotty.

“Fin-Fitz Charters”
Captain Dennis Pick reports that his charters have been catching more flounder lately with some getting up to 10 flatties per person including a few keepers.  They have been most successful using live minnow and squid combos and small white bucktails tipped with a strip of squid.  Dennis reports that he saw a fisherman off the rocks bring in a huge flounder that probably went at least 10 lbs.  Captain Pick reports that the Blues have been invading the IRI on incoming tide and can be caught using silver Rattletraps and white bucktails with a white twister.  Dennis said that the croaker bite has been strong, but the “hardheads” are more spread out so anglers may have to move to find them.  His parties have had good hookups using bloodworm soaked squid when targeting the croakers.

“Pandemonium”
Captain Steve Peterson reports that offshore fishing slowed a little last week with the big blow and most boats remaining at the docks.  Before the wind, the “Pandemonium” was running everyday with bottom fishing trips targeting tau tog because of the poor sea bass showing.  On his last bottom trip, Steve headed to the 16 mile wrecks where his anglers were kept busy with lots of tog to 7 pounds.  The larger Bluefin have made a showing at the 20 Fathom Lumps with most fish running 70 to 100 pounds with an occasional larger fish in the mix.  Unfortunately the NSMF has cut the daily limit to 1 fish per boat.  Steve reports that chunking for these fish has been most productive around the thermoclines and on one charter, they were hand feeding the fish on the surface.  Captain Peterson reports that the billfish are making a real showing and on the last 3 trips, they have seen a total of 9 hungry White Marlin coming into the spreads.  They have been able to get a hook into one or two of these beauties on each trip.

“Captain Tom Charters”
Captain Tom reports that he went on a marathon trip that started last Wednesday at noon and returned to the dock Thursday afternoon.  They spent the night at the Hot Dog and trolled everywhere in between.  The total catch consisted of 2 Bluefin, 2 Dolphin 8 and 10 lbs., 6 Bonitas and a Citation Wahoo that weighed 30 lbs.
