FISHING NEWS!
Lil Angler
The fishing report from the head boats is that fishing is improving daily. The anglers on the Lil Angler are filling coolers on a regular basis with croakers using clams, bloods, and squid for bait. They have been doing a little better with flounder in the 20 to 22 inch class and have been getting 10 to 15 keepers a trip. The sea bass still have lock jaw, but hopefully the bite will improve.
Extreme Charters
Both boats have busy with inshore charters and they have had some nice croaker catches out of IRI and have also had some flounder, but most flatties have been too short. Bluefish action is still hot near the inlet mixed with some shad and some short stripers at night. Captain Bill Knorr had a fly fishing trip where the blue fish action was great as well as some short stripers. The anglers brought a 32" striper to the boat, but they released it to fight again. Extreme Charters now has 'open boat trips' available for guys wanting to join others in pursuit of the areas inshore species.
Pole Position
Captain Mike reports that his charters have been heading offshore to take advantage of the tuna and billfish bites. They have been fishing the Baltimore and Poormans and have had Yellowfins to 55 lbs. Mike reports lots of strikes, but some of the fish are biting short so he suggests double hooking ballyhoo baits for greater success. The Marc Pfeiffer party fished last week in the Poormans and had a White Marlin release, a Blue Marlin release and a 45 lb Yellow. The Blue was estimated at 550 plus pounds and took 45 minutes to bring to the boat.
AJ Charters
Captain Bob Wilson reports that all of his trips to the Poormans have been doing very well and have had lots of offshore hookups. On one recent trip they had 6 Yellowfins to 48 lbs. On another charter they had 9 Yellowfin up to 40 lbs. Their best trip so far resulted in 11 Yellowfins for the group on board.
Fin-Fitz Charters
Captain Dennis Pick reports that all of his parties have been getting some flounder, with some small ones mixed in with some up to 19". They flounder have been caught by the Coast Guard Station using white fluke rigs with live minnows and tipped with squid strips. Captain Dennis reports in the Rehoboth Bay area has been real good as well as Massey's Ditch for croakers. Dennis reports that his best catches for croakers has come on scented squid with some fish measuring 15 to 18 inches as well as lots of 12 inch fish. Small trout have been taken just outside IRI as well as a few stripers on live spot and live eels fished inside the inlet. Captain Dennis reported a catch of a 44 inch hammerhead shark much to the delight of the young angler that handled the fight like a pro.
Pandemonium
Captain Steve Peterson reports that offshore fishing is heating up from the 20 fathom lumps to the canyons. Last week the Yellowfins were scattered up and down the line with most fish weighing an average of 45 pounds. Poormans was the best bet for anglers looking for tuna, marlin, and dolphin. Most boats trolling the area averaged 3 tuna with a few dolphin to add to the box. Captain Steve reports that the Yellowfin aren&Mac226;t in any real concentrations, but expects that the bite will come up strong within the next 2 weeks. The larger Bluefin have shown up at the 20 fathom lumps and Steve reports that its time for the 'Chunkers' to get geared up. Massey&Mac226;s has produced Bluefin in the 40 to 70 pound range. Captain Peterson reports that when he marked fish, he was successful in jigging them up with diamond jigs. Bottom fishing for sea bass remains slow, but parties fishing wrecks have had good catches of tog and triggerfish.
Raven Lady
Captain Chris Moody reports that action for tuna and billfish has been strong on their charters and have had multiple hookups on both tuna and marlin. Chris has been fishing the 50 to 100 Fathom line at the Poormans and has also boated a lot of gaffer Dolphin. On an earlier trip, Capatin Moody reported that his group limited out on Bluefin to 60 pounds while trolling the Hambone.
Captain Tom Charters
Captain Tom reports that his clients have had a lot of luck on tuna, dolphin and bluefish. Last Saturday, Captain Tom&Mac226;s charter fished Massey's Canyon and had 1 tuna and 7 bluefish. They moved to the Hot Dog where an angler boated a nice Dolphin.
