Fishing Report

(January 6 - 13, 2001)

Water Temp: Lewes - Lewes: 35' ~ De. Lightship: 42' as of Jan. 6, 2001

A few slot fish were reported at the Indian River Inlet. The stripers were caught on bucktails.

During the winter months, I would like to introduce you to our staff. Captain Bill and I have been fishing for over 40 years; 20 years in this area. Brian Elliott fishes for stripers in the De. Bay and at the Indian River Inlet. Captain Les bottom fishes in the De. Bay. Bill Weiss is our surf expert. Debbie fishes the surf. Jay fishes the back bay and Masseys Ditch and Parker fishes the Pier.

This week, Brian Elliott will give tips on striper fishing. Night fishing is best at the Indian River Inlet from mid April through Dec. with water temperature between 55 and 65 degrees. Live and rigged eels with 1/2oz. egg sinker and various plugs, mega baits, bombers, windcheaters, gibbs lures, yozuri and bucktails work best.

When drifting in a boat through the rips in the Inlet, the incoming tide is most productive.

Brian uses a 3oz. troll sinker and live eels, spot or mullet for the larger fish and tandem white bucktails with white worms will net you more smaller fish. Brian recommends 30lb. power pro or fire line with a 50lb.-4' leader.

Brian says stripers hit in the De. Bay at 8A and 8B bouy, Outer wall, and Overfalls Shoals drifting through rips with live eels, spot, and mullet from mid April to June and Oct. through Dec.

Next week Captain Bill and I will guide you through trolling for blue fish, albecore and bonita and wreck fishing.
