Local reports confirm anglers are catching catfish on cut bunker and herring, also white perch and undersize stripers on worms at the Broadkill River. Catfish are hitting at the Roosevelt Inlet.

Bill Graham and Phil Land are catching white perch on grass shrimp at the Nanticoke river.

Local ponds are producing pickerel, crappie and yellow perch on minnows, grass shrimp and nightcrawlers. Some Bass are biting on pink jigs.

This week our weekly "how to tips" will cover bottom fishing in the ocean. Many species of fish provide lots of family fun when fishing a few miles from the Indian River Inlet and in the Delaware Bay.

Using the right size weight is very important as you must hold bottom when fishing for flounder. Present as little terminal tackle as possible.Drift along with top and bottom rigs with various colored teasers and a 3/0 wide gap hook tipped with squid or shiners or live minnows.

A very popular top and bottom rig is the "pops" rig and marinating your squid in peeler oil is also a good way to tempt flounder and trout .

Although squid is the number one bait of choice, Clams, Blood worms and sand fleas will also attract croakers and sea bass.

Ocean hot spots include the "Southeast grounds" and "B" buoy. During the summer many of these species can be found close to shore, and in the spring , flounder can be found in the bays and rivers.

Delaware bay springtime "hot spots" include the Broadkill River and Brown Shoals. The anchorage, haystacks and the inner and outer walls do well in late summer.
