Fishing Report

As the fishing season heats up, anglers are weighing in a mixed bag of fish.

At the Broadkill, Steve Price weighed in a 25.5 Lb Black Drum and Dave Dubroff, a 19.5 lber on peeler crab bait. Rob Ruffin brought a 7.5 lb trout to the scales caught on peelers, Todd Scheidemen caught 19 trout with 5 keepers up to 2.5 Lbs There's still perch being caught on Bloodworms and grass shrimp.

Roosevelt Inlet was productive for Wes Olson who landed a 6.77 lb Flounder on a shiner. Trout are hitting a variety of baits with the most popular being live peeler crab.

Ted Mears had decent catches of undersize trout and stripers on Peelers and Bucktails in the Delaware Bay. He also caught a 5-1/4 lb flounder while trolling a silver and black stretch 25 at the mouth of the bay. He fished the rocks dunking green crabs and sand fleas ,boating Tog up to 12Lbs.

The pier at Cape Henlopen State Park found nice catches for Mike Bowen , who hauled up 5 keeper flounder between 17.5" and 19.75", 2 keeper trout on Fin-S jigs with shiner or squid trailers. Terry Davis and John Korman caught Flounder up to 22" with many throw backs. Black Drum, large trout and stripers were caught on Spec Rigs and Fin S jigs. Brian Elliott landed a 5.33 Lb Trout on Chartruese and Pepper Fin S Jigs.

Blowfish, Flounder and Trout were reported at the Lewes Beach , caught on Peeler Oil soaked chicken and squid and also on live peeler crabs.

Clayton Smith weighed in two stripers up to 34" , caught at the Indian River Inlet on Bucktails and White Worms. Stripers were also reported caught on live eels.

Jack Segrin, Bruce DeHart and Bob drifted the Indian River Bay for keeper Flounder and Blue Fish from one to four pounds. Dave Moncavage drifted near buoy #5 picking up 3 flounder up to 24" on squid.

Slammer Blues are heading north. Dan Langdon and Jim Leopold nailed 4 at Massey's Canyon and 1 northeast of the Delaware Light Ship. These Blues were 10 lbs and were caught on Hoochies.

Skip Mosiej caught Flounder and Shark on squid and bucktails 30 miles offshore. Mark Bream, Marge Newby and Ferdinand Lieras caught their limit of Seabass up to 4.63Lbs. These Bass were hungry for Clams and were caught near "B" Buoy.

On the fresh water scene, Josh Crawford caught and released a 5lb Largemouth Bass at Red Mill Pond on a Sluggo.

Memorial Day weekend is the Indian River Boat Associations annual Blue Fish Tournament. This is usually a good tournament and is open to all boaters, applications are available here at Bill's Sport Shop. This is a two out of three day tournament allowing for a weather day out. Good luck to all entrants!

Recent up date on the Indian River dredging: The Army Corps has agreed to dredge at their expense, all they need are the permits from the state. If all goes well, they will start the dredging this fall. That includes Massy's Ditch and Rehoboth Bay!
