DREDGING REPORT

>From Senator George Bunting:

The dredging was started in Massey's Ditch and has now moved to the junction of Massey's Ditch and the Indian River channel. The Division of Soil and Water Conservation personnel judge this area to be the worst part as far as the heavy amount of shoaling it has received. Finally, after this junction area is completed, the work will move eastward into the Indian River channel.

The Senator has been informed that the state and federal governments have granted an additional six weeks extension for the dredging and that they are looking at completing the dredging sometime in mid May.

CAPE HENLOPEN CLOSED TO PROTECT SHOREBIRDS

Park officials have again closed the point at Cape Henlopen State Park to vehicles and pedestrians to allow the birds to mate and nest. The area is closed from March 1 to August 31.

Reopened are four surf fishing beaches that were closed during the winter months. The reopened areas are at Gordons Pond, Beach Plum Island, Conquest Rd. and Key Box Rd..

TROUT STOCKING

Block House Pond (behind Beebe Hospital) has been stocked with Trout and the season is now open in that pond only. A fresh water fishing license is required and a trout stamp is also required for ages 16 to 65. We have the stamps and licenses and the trout baits. Delaware residents over 65 and under 12 do not need stamps or licenses. Ages 12 to 16 need a youth trout stamp $2.10.
