Trout are being caught all over the Lewes area, according to Capt. Bill Baker of Bill's Sport Shop.
Baker reports anglers limiting out on Trout at the Cape Henlopen Pier and in the Delaware Bay and Roosevelt Inlet, and other Trout catches at Broadkill and in the Indian River Inlet.
In the Delaware Bay, Wally Borgmann and his father limited out on Trout, Flounder and Tautog on a single trip. Don White, meanwhile, landed an 8-pound 'Tog on the outer wall using green crabs and Annette Ensor plucked a 6-pound Flounder out of the water on the Beach Ball using minnows and squid. Another notable 'Tog catch was reported by Allen Warfel fishing the outer wall with fleas. Black Drum were also reported along with Stripers at the Overfalls Shoals and 8B Buoy.
At the Pier, Art Thompson caught his limit of Trout to 24 inches on peeler crabs and boneless chicken breast and also his limit of Flounder on minnows and squid. Good Flounder and Trout fishing continues at the pier.
In Roosevelt Inlet, Jake Murdick limited out on Trout with peelers and other anglers hooked Trout up to 7 pounds on chicken, squid and peelers.
Don Halverson brought back Trout, Bluefish and Kingfish on two trips to Broadkill and Abe Melnick caught a 3.5-pound Trout on chicken there, as well.
The Indian River Inlet, Baker reports, is hot with Stripers at night on live eels and plugs and is producing Trout and small schools of Bluefish and 'Tog on the rocks.
Elsewhere, offshore fishing was dominated by Mako sharks, with Pat Patterson catching a 140-pounder south of the Jackspot and Capt. Bob reporting Mako at the Jackspot along with Slammer Blues. Bill and Keith Newcomer ran into some nice Tautog on an ocean wreck, including a 5.75-pound fish that took green crabs. Pat Horner landed a 5-pound Flounder on minnows and squid at B Buoy. Slammer Blues were also caught at the buoy line.
Surf fishing continued to be somewhat slow. The only notable catch was some Trout landed by D.J. Baker on mullet at the Navy Crossing.
Fresh water anglers had some things to talk about, too, with Angel Chase catching a citation 1-pound Crappie on minnows at Silver Lake and Howard Kelly snaring a 5.25-pound Largemouth Bass at Burton Pond.
Bluefin Tuna Regs
"Bluefin Tuna have been reported at Massey's Canyon and Yellowfins are also at the canyons," said Capt. Baker. "We expect a good month of Bluefin Tuna fishing."
