The Lewes, Delaware area's attention shifted to offshore waters this past week.
"Hot," is how Capt. Bill Baker of Bill's Sport Shop describes offshore fishing now, with Tuna, Bluefish and Dolphin offering up most of the action.
Mark Christianson landed three Yellowfins trolling aboard the 7 C's at the Baltimore Canyon and John Blum and his son, John, caught a Dolphin and a Yellowfin trolling at the Poor Man's Canyon.
The charter boat Slicker III ran into some nice Bluefish in the 12- to 15-pound range at Massey's Canyon, and other reports came in of Bluefin Tuna at the Hambone, Chicken Bone and Hot Dog and Yellowfin Tuna from the Tea Cup to the Hot Dog at the 30-Fathom line.
In closer, at the B Buoy, Sea Bass, Ling, Flounder and Mackerel provided non-stop action for Dan and Bill Dennerlein on clams, squid and mackerel, and Jack Shellenberger weighed in a 2-pound Sea Bass caught on squid.
Elsewhere, David Bucks hit some nice Trout on green tube aqua clear and squid in the Delaware Bay and Bill Kuduk, fishing the bay's Outer Wall, reeled in a 4 1/2-pound Flounder on squid and minnows.
In the surf, some Croakers, Spot and Kingfish have been taken on bloodworms. The Cape Henlopen State Park Fishing Pier slowed down with reports of Spot on bloodworms. And Weakfish were reported from the Roosevelt Inlet and Broadkill.
Ed Rucinski had the fresh water catch of the week with two Largemouth Bass of 4- and 4 1/4-pounds. Fishing the Red Mill Pond, Rucinski used a Rapala and minnow.
Indian River Inlet and Indian River Bay really heated up with the inlet yielding huge Stripers for the second week in a row and Flounder taking off in the bay.
At the inlet, Harry Lewis caught 19 3/4-pound and 23 1/2-pound Stripers on black worms and jig heads, John Hazzard landed a 1-pound Kingfish on squid, and Don Halverson brought back Rockfish of 12 and 16 3/4 pounds on successive trips using live eels. Bluefish and Trout were also caught in the inlet.
A bevy of nice Flounder were taken out of the Indian River Bay.
Brittany Hoffnagle weighed in a 6-pound Flounder that bit into a minnow, 8-year-old Joseph Iplenski caught four Flounder up to 18 1/2 inches on minnows, Paul Chalk hooked a 17-inch Flounder on minnows, and Craig Lefever took out a 20-incher, also on minnows.
Blowfish catches have also been reported from IR.
