Lewes, Delaware Fishing Report
July 17-23, 1997

Offshore action dominated Lewes Delaware fishing news again this week with Tuna providing most of the action, according to Capt. Bill Baker of Bill's Sport Shop.

Art Oggenfuss, trolling aboard the charter boat Joint Adventure, boated two Yellowfin Tuna at the Baltimore Canyon.

Bluefin Tuna are also biting. Mark Christianson caught three Bluefins in the 60-pound range, as well as bluefish, chunking at the Hambone aboard the 7 Cs. Wally Borgmann, meanwhile, reported Dolphin and Tuna on a trip to the Washington Canyon.

Elsewhere offshore, Bluefin and Bluefish were reported at Massey's Canyon and Chris Hollmann, fishing aboard the Annie Sez, brought home a 12-pound Mackerel after trolling at the Triple Wrecks.

Closer in, the B Buoy is still a hot spot for Sea Bass, Ling and Flounder. Morris Capi weighed in a 2-pound Sea Bass taken on minnows and squid.

In the Delaware Bay, Mike Maxey hooked into a 6 1/2-pound Tautog fishing the Outer Wall with sand fleas. In the Roosevelt Inlet, Rick Walter caught four Bluefish on mullet.

The Cape Henlopen Pier was the site of the second annual Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier Tournament. Trish Fink placed third again after catching 11 Spot and 1 Trout on bloodworms.

Stripers are still keeping anglers busy in the Indian River Inlet. "Tip Top" Van caught 5 Rock with the largest being 36 inches on three trips fishing live eels and bucktails, Carl Swinn snagged a 20-pounder on blackworms, Rod Siefred landed an 18 1/2-pound Striper on live eels, and Brian Hann and Drew Martin weighed in 4 Stripers from 32 to 38 1/2 inches in length that bit on live eels.

Nice size Flounder have also been reported in Indian River Bay. They've been caught on top and bottom rigs with squid and minnows.
