Lewes, Delaware Fishing Report
April 17-26, 1998

The first Weakfish of the season was weighed in by Paul Hazzard, age 12. Hazzard caught the fish at the Cape Henlopen State Park Fishing Pier.

There have also been reports of Weakies at the Broadkill along with Perch. Perch are being caught on bloodworms and grass shrimp.

Skates and small Stripers were also reported at the Cape Henlopen pier. Mirro lures, rattletraps and bloodworms were working well for them.

In the Delaware Bay, Scott Fink used eels to nail a keeper Striper and four throwbacks at "8B" Buoy. There has also been a high concentration of throwbacks at Overfalls and the mouth of the bay.

Tautog fishing has picked up along the Outer Wall with reports of 6- and 8-pounders on green crabs and frozen fleas.

Small Tautog are being caught at Indian River Inlet. Also at IR, Brett Jackson hauled in a keeper Striper and 7 short Stripers on eels.

The Mackerel action offshore is still hot according to Martin Karowski. Karowski caught 42 Macks this week a few miles off the beach. In addition, the crew aboard Cool Hand Luke reported Mackerel south of "B" Buoy.

In fresh water, Tina Wright caught and released a 4-pound, 3-ounce Largemouth Bass on a chartreuse spinner bait at Silver Lake.
