Lewes, Delaware Fishing Report
April 27-29, 1998

Delaware Bay fishermen are enjoying great Tautog action according to Kathy Baker of Bill's Sport Shop.

Baker reports that the Outer Wall has produced some spectacular Taug, including an 8.5-pounder taken by Wallace Borgmann Sr.

Other Taug of note were Donald White's 7.75-pounder and a 7-pounder reeled in by 8-year-old Dustin Mitchell.

Lenny Lapi and Ed McQuaide limited out on Taug up to 8.25 pounds on one trip and Henry Warner, Wilbur Bellemann and Ray Harper limited out on another trip using green crabs.

Stripers, meanwhile, are being caught at the Rips and are mixed in with a few Flounder at the 8A and 8B buoys.

At the Cape Henlopen State Park Fishing Pier, Trout and Flounder have been caught on squid and minnows.

The Broadkill, Roosevelt Inlet and Lewes Beach have all yielded Trout and Flounder on squid and minnows.

Surf fishing finally began to pick up a little as Kingfish made their first appearance of the season at 3 Rs Road just south of Indian River Inlet. Bluefish have been caught in the surf at 3 Rs and the Bethany-Fenwick area. Squid and mullet are working best.

Fishing in the inlet has been outstanding, with the monster fish of the week being Aaron Strausbaugh's 33.5-pound Striper on eels. Jack Hyde nailed a 15-pound Striper on a bucktail and worm.

Taug fishing is good on the rockpiles. The jetty is also producing Bluefish, including a 3-pounder taken on a bucktail and squid by 10-year-old Trish Fink, and an occasional Trout.

Large Perch and Catfish have been taken at Oyster Rock Road on bloodworms.
