Lewes, Delaware Fishing Report
May 22-28, 1998

The fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park has continued the hot streak it started last week, according to Kathy Baker of Bill's Sport Shop.

Baker said anglers stopping in at the shop boasted of catching a variety of fish. Rob Kriner, for instance, limited out on Flounder using spec rigs with shiners, and Brian Elliott caught Flounder and Trout on Fin S rigs and shiners.

John Korman and Steve Wright bagged their limit of Trout and Flounder using squid, chicken and minnows, while Lenny Lappi checked in with Flounder and reported Blowfish, Bluefish and Sharks.

On Lewes beach, Ron Krajewski weighed in a 4.75-pound Weakie. He caught it while fly fishing.

Lewes beach also produced 3 Weakfish on chicken for Norman Newcomb and Leslie Scott.

At Broadkill, Bob Ober brought back 6 Trout and a Flounder. Big Blues were reported from Broadkill Beach.

In the Delaware Bay, big Slammer Blues between 9 and 11.5 pounds were caught by Adam Reed, Travis Hoffman, Ron Shupp and Rusty Hoffman. They added that Trout and lots of Flounder and Sharks were being caught on squid and cut Bluefish.

Shepp from the Fancy Nancy trolled Southeast of the Lightship and said he ran into a school of Boston Blues up to 20 to 30 pounds using hoochies and rag mops.

Andy Dively fished the Outer Wall and caught Tautog on sand fleas and green crabs. Kristen and Kelsie Dively, age 7, caught keeper Flounder on minnows in Indian River Bay.

From the Indian River Inlet, Brian Jones weighed in a Striper caught on a bomber. Trout were also reported in the inlet on bucktails.

Surf fishing at 3 Rs Road is producing smaller Blues on mullet.

In fresh water, Scott Manning caught a 4.75-pound Largemouth Bass on a local pond.
