Rehoboth Beach Museum Walking Tours and Boardwalk Strolls
From September 05, 2019 9:00 am until October 10, 2019 11:00 am
At Rehoboth Beach Bandstand
program@rehobothbeachmuseum.org
302-227-7310
http://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org
The popular Rehoboth Beach Museum Walking Tours begin on Thursday, May 16 starting at 9:00 a.m. from the Rehoboth Avenue bandstand. In addition, the first of a series of Evening Strolls along the Boardwalk will begin on Thursday, May 30 at 5:30 pm.
The morning Walking Tours will be held every other Thursday morning throughout the summer, except in July when there will be only one tour on July 18, and then picking up again on Thursday August 8. The tour is a 2-hour gentle stroll around downtown. It costs $10.00 payable on the day of the tour to the tour guide. Look for the pink umbrella held by tour guide Jean Brolund or the black umbrella held by tour guide Gerry Beaulieu. Reservations are required and may be obtained by calling the Rehoboth Beach Museum at (302) 227-7310. You may leave your name and telephone number on the answering machine if no one is available to take your call.
The popular evening stroll, began last year, will be on May 30 at 5:30 pm. An evening stroll along the Boardwalk was a tradition for many years. After a long day of surf and sand, families would often take a walk on the boardwalk after dinner, sometimes stopping for ice cream for dessert. Recreate that tradition with the tour leaders.
The morning Walking Tours provide general information about the history of Rehoboth Beach while touching on several of the storms that have shaped the coastline and the beachfront in town. The tour guide will lead walkers from the bandstand along Rehoboth Avenue, pointing out landmarks and providing photos of historical sites and events. Topics covered are the Native people of the area, the Methodist Camp Meetings, Hotels, Railroad Service, and Horn’s Pavilion.
Other topics on the tour may include shipwrecks, naming ships such as the Falmouth, the Merrimac, the Severn, and the SS Thomas Tracy, the railroad, the Belhaven Hotel, restaurants such as the Robert Lee and Snyder’s, and of course, Funland.
Tour goers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water or fill up a water bottle at the historic Women’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain on the boardwalk, one of the landmarks mentioned on the tour. There are restrooms available at the bandstand area.
Anyone interested in forming their own group for a private walking tour can call the Museum at (302) 227-7310 to make arrangements.
Check the website www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org for exact dates and times, as well as other programs of interest.

The show is similar to the popular television show Whose Line is it Anyway, with Drew Carey. The cast will entertain you and use audience input to develop funny scenes off the cuff. “We’re excited to invite comedy to the Dickens, especially now that we all need a good laugh, given all the political mess we hear on the news every day.”, says Cheryl DeBois the manager of the Theatre.
The cast at the Dickens show consists of four professional entertainers: • Stevie Jay, a local favorite emcee and host entertainer, who is a Business Developer at Community Integrated Services, MC/Account Manager at Triple B Entertainment and a former Bartender at Bethany Blues of Bethany • DJ Magellan is a well known DJ around Delmarva and Radio DJ/Producer at Ocean 98.1 WOCM. The group began performing two months ago to sold out crowds at Mio Fratello’s in Fenwick where they continue to perform every other Friday nights at 930pm. Tagged as Adult Only, the comedy is unfiltered and raw. They have been featured on the morning radio show Ocean 98.1 WOCM and also on Coastal A&E With Host Michael Sprouse on Delaware 105.9. Created by Stevie Jay, the show is a hit and brings much needed laughter to our area. “It’s promoting the good old fashion belly laugh”, quips Ruthie during her radio interview with Michael Sprouse. “Each show is a completely different show”, explains Stevie where we are utilizing various IMPROV scenarios and rotating stand-up comedians.

The Harbor of Refuge Light is a lighthouse built on the ocean end of the outer Delaware Breakwater at the mouth of the Delaware Bay, just off Cape Henlopen. It was built to function with the Delaware Breakwater East End Light in order to mark the National Harbor of Refuge.
On November 15, 1926, the new Harbor of Refuge light was established. This new cast-iron structure was designed to endure the most intense of Atlantic storms. The current structure of 76 feet (23 m) is a white, conical tower with a black lantern. The house itself lies on a cast-iron caisson which is built into the breakwater. The pier of the tower is lined inside with reinforced concrete, while the interior of the tower is lined with brick. All of this rests on a block of concrete within the breakwater. Originally, the tower was equipped with a four-panel fourth order Fresnel lens that flashed every 10 seconds at a 72-foot (22 m) focal point. The lens revolved on ball bearings and was driven by a clockwork mechanism driven by weights within a hollow central iron column.
On September 12, at 7 pm the Rehoboth Beach Museum will host Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse Past and Future. The Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that is the caretaker of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. Learn about the history of the lighthouse and the restoration work being done.
Space may be limited so reservations are required. Please call (302) 227-7310 to insure your space. The program is free for members. A $5 donation is suggested for non-members. The Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue. There is free parking and the museum is handicap accessible.

Taco Reho, the notorious So-Cal inspired taco truck located on Coastal Highway, is welcoming the summer season with the return of their monthly “Nite Mrkts”. The idea of the evening was born from owner Billy Lucas’ travels in Thailand with a particular interest in the night markets that are held there. A night market is historically a carnival like atmosphere, welcoming locals and nomads to share their craft and sell their merchandise under a retro array of lights, colored tents and the moon. The experience itself is what the truck aims to parallel - far away from Asia.
The market is meant to be all encompassing, showcasing a variety of different artistic outlets. To
include are visual artists, tarot card readers, live painters, alcohol infused cupcakes by Calypso
Creations, Surfboards, custom handbags, street food, and more.
Taco Reho’s first Nite Mrkt is held on May 23rd at 6 pm located at 19406 Coastal Highway in
Rehoboth Beach. For more information, please follow their event page on Facebook.
